Honeydew was kind enough to answer my cry of despair a few weeks ago in my canyon of despair (I got sad because I wanted someone to comment).
Saw her blog and got addicted to it- I might have to make a fanclub for her in the future (right now, I am busy enough w/the Dustin Diamond and Golden Girls Fansites)
She's funny, intelligent and sweet...but not too sweet- which is a good thing. Don't ask me why, I have recently resolved to not trust girls who are too sweet. She makes cool lists too (something I haven't done in awhile...hmmm)
Anyways- check her out and give her some love!

Iamhurtaka"Django"
How's this for SUCKASS:
I was cutting bread today w/ a serrated knife.
Question: What is a guitarist's worst nightmare?
Uh...you, in the spandex and pirate shirt.
audience member: errr...Barbra Streisand and Cher singing a duet?
No dumbass- I cut the shit out of my index finger! Bled like a mofo... deep too, but not deep enough for stitches. I was livid- I had planned to come home after work and practice like hell... The irony is that last night I was listening to and practicing the style of Gypsy Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt- who only had 3 useable fingers (his hand was disfigured because his caravan caught on fire and he ran back in to save his guitar). Despite his handicap- Django was one of the fastest guitarists ever...as well as being melodically inventive and having a an uncanny ability to wring staggering emotions from his strings. Listen to one of his recordings and you'll know what I'm talkin bout. ("talking about music is like dancing about architecture") Sean Penn's character in the Woody Allen movie "Sweet and Low Down" was obsessed w/Django, and fainted when he thought he saw him. Great movie, features music by Django too!
This really sucks, but I can't help but feel like it's a test of some sort-
as if the spirit of Django is telling me something.
"quit guitar"
no, that'd be too pessimistic. I think it's more like "try a different approach to the instrument by limiting yourself- it'll definitely give you a fresh perspective"
Also, I will try and not think about sex when cutting bread.

Saw a fantastic group last night called the Hot Club of Cowtown... some of the most passionate, virtuostic playing I've seen in a long time. They play in the style of 30's/40's western swing/gypsy jazz... the guitar player slayed me- I feel like I am wasting valuable practice time blogging about it. (runs off to play a scale)
The concert took place at someone's house in Palo Alto, I guess the guy has been hosting concerts for 10 years now. He renovated his garage into a high-ceilinged posh art gallery/mini concert room. Kind of reminded me of the Kuumbwa Jazz center in Santa Cruz. It was really an intimate setting, he only invited like 40 people because the neighbors had complained at the last one and this one was kind of a "test".
Before the show, I was in downtown Palo Alto and saw the place of my former employment. I felt like I was walking past a former girlfriend...who had turned into an awful beast (on the inside and outside) I took a quick peek, and let me tell you- it was not pretty. Not pretty at all. So I ran.
I ran down the street and saw that a former co-worker was working at another establishment. I think I kind of startled her, because we haven't seen each other for like 6 months. She seemed happy to see me, though her eyes were really red for some reason. After the initial catching up/small talk I realized that I really miss her. (I used to have a huge crush on her, until I found out that she's too damn cool for me- too mysterious or something). I tried to outcool her, but just when I thought I was winning this battle-o-coolness she said "well, it was nice to see you" (get a hint! I need to get back to work!). I was like "oh yeah! bye!"
So I ran. Darted out of there like a stoned/paranoid cat being chased by a tractor...

Damn, these nights are getting cold. So cold that I wore a turtleneck to sleep, but it started to annoy me. Wearing a turtleneck is like being strangled constantly.... by a really weak guy.
Speaking of weak guys, I went to the gym tonight. Haven't gone for over a week, I felt like superman trying to lift kryptonite... It must have been inspiring for people to see me work out- they must've feel really strong. I did do some 12 oz. curls and exercised my drinking tolerance this last week though... that damn halloween spirit got the best of me again.
Went out and rented the movie I AM SAM featuring Sean Penn and the songs of the Beatles. Great movie, the little girl in it instantly broke my heart. Found myself tearing up...dammit- I hate being manipulated! Cut it out! Stop being so damn cute! The movie struck a chord because Penn's character reminds me a bit of my student. (autistic, obsessed with the Beatles) Makes me wonder what he'll be like when he's older (he's 16 now).
I was dissapointed with the soundtrack to the film though- I listened to the CD of the soundtrack today, but couldn't stand it for some reason... w/out the picture it just isn't the same. Also, something about the way the songs were produced just rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it's because I am fiercely loyal to those original Beatle's recordings. The only ones I could stomach were Rufus Wainwright's version of "Across The Universe" and Aimee Mann/Michael Penn's "Two of Us". Kinda wished they had asked Elliott Smith, Neil Finn and Ron Sexsmith to cover some tunes... that would've been the icing on the cake.
